Don’t Knock Upon My Front Door

You don’t have to fall for me
or try to seem impressed.
You can keep all the cards you like
pressed close to your chest.

You don’t have to make promises
or tell me where you’ve been.
But don’t knock upon my front door
if you’re not coming in.

You don’t have to drop your guard.
You can keep your mask.
Tell me all of your fairytales.
I won’t take them to task.

We can turn a blind eye
to the life beneath our skin.
But don’t knock upon my front door
if you’re not coming in.

You don’t have to be deep
as long as you are true.
You’re the one who called on me.
So what does that mean to you?

I can wait on a hidden sign.
I can wait to a hear a call.
I can wait for eternity.
I really don’t mind at all.

But I can’t wait to reach the end
of a life that won’t begin.
So don’t knock upon my front door
if you’re not coming in.

Don’t knock upon my front door
if you’re not coming in.
