But For Today

Time can make a rich man poor,
it can make a proud man kneel.
It can loose a flood of sorrows
you’d never thought you’d feel.
Tomorrow I might reach heaven
just to find it’s changed to hell,
but for today,
for today I will be well.

Time can make you pay for crimes
you never thought you’d done.
You wake to find to your intentions
have been rotting in the sun.
Tomorrow might judge me harshly
for reasons I can’t yet tell
but for today,
for today I will be well.

I’m going to quit my constant weaving
of the coat I may never wear.
I’m going to quit my constant grieving
and find the joy already there.

Time may make me bitter,
it might make my heart confused.
The love I thought I’d never let go
is the love I somehow may lose.
But tomorrow if I’m alone,
I hope I still say to myself:
but for today,
for today I will be well.
